If you’ve been following along for a little while, you’ve probably figured out that I love rabbits. March is “rabbit month” in our house. It represents when we adopted one of our bunnies and its the other rabbits birthday.
Why do I love rabbit so much? Where did this start? Well funny story, it all started with my cousin Christy.
When I was about 3 or 4 years old, she took me to the local pound to look for a pet (unbeknownst to my mom). I remember walking through a large room full of cages with over excited animals. They all seemed large and scary. I passed by all of the cats and dogs because they just weren’t an option. When I was younger I was highly allergic to their dander. As much as I wanted to cuddle with them, I’d break out in hives. We walked to a cage with a small white rabbit who was huddled in the corner. It was love at first site. Before I knew it I had a little white rabbit and 5 gold fish. Apparently we stopped somewhere else on the way home to add to the new pet collection.
This little rabbit was name Flopsy. She was a small white, Netherland dwarf with small black circles around her eyes and stripe down her back. She wasn’t the nicest rabbit. She actually bit everyone. As a typical little kid, I over-loved her and ignored her grunting.
Growing up all of my favorite cartoon characters were of course, rabbits. Bugs Bunny, Thumper and Peter Rabbit. I had a ton of stuffed animal rabbits too.
Fast forward to current day. I still love rabbits. I recently bought new spring dish towels with rabbits and I definitely own a handful of bunny slippers. We currently own two very spoiled rabbits. “Brad” Paisley and Henry. They each have their own room. They get treats every night.
We adopted Paisley after someone had left him in a box in the city. I couldn’t just drop him off at the pound! Paisley is so sweet! The reason he is “Brad” Paisley is because we thought he was a girl, and then puberty hit. When I had discovered that you could have pet rabbits that could be 10 lbs to even 20 lbs, I really wanted one! We adopted Henry when I found a Flemish Giant breeder online. Now our little bunny is 11 pounds and very spoiled.
Honestly, if I could own a small farm full of pet rabbits I would. I just love them. It all started with one little white bunny from the pound who needed a home. Thanks Christy ;).
