If you’re from Eastern Pennsylvania or Northern Delaware, you probably call your dear grandparents, “Mommom” or “Poppop”. My Mommom Nancy has lived with my parents since I was one years old. Having a live in grandma almost your whole life gets you a little spoiled! I remember when I was about 5 years old, after I was already tucked in I would grab a book and sneak to her house. I tip toed past my parents room and through the garage to get to her apartment in the back of the house. I would run in with a grin on my face and a guilty conscious, “just one more bedtime story Mommom?” She would always match my grin and pull me up to her lap for a few more snuggles and stories.
I remember whatever dream I would pursue as a she would tell me that I could do anything. She has always been my biggest fan. Every art project or new idea I would bring to her was always amazing. That’s what Mommoms are for right? She is a very smart and creative lady herself. Her father was a professional house painter and passed along his craft to her. When she was younger she would redo every fixer upper she bought and make it beautiful. Mommom Nancy has always loved garage sales and would grab a cute piece of furniture and make it like new. Back in the day she also had an interior design business and would create custom drapery and curtains for her clients. The list goes on of all of the talents she possessed.
If I were to choose a few words to describe her I would use faithful, steadfast and strong. She is a strong woman of God and I’ve always admired her love for the Lord. She is a faithful friend and loving grandma to all. There are a number of people at my church, young and old who know her as “Mommom”. Her steadfast and unconditional love has always been a go to for encouragement.
Mommom, Happy 85th Birthday! You are looking good for 85 years old! I’m so thankful for you and hope this year is the best yet!
